The Frederiksted Economic Development Association, Inc. (FEDA) was formed in 1996 with the mission being the enhancement and support of the economic, historic, cultural and tourism product of the town of Frederiksted, St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.
FEDA has worked and lobbied on behalf of the town, on many initiatives. The organization worked closely with Congressmen from the US Delta Region to write legislation to obtain Enterprise Zone Status for Frederiksted, Christiansted, and the Savan community of St. Thomas. The bill was passed in 1999, and management of the Enterprise Zone Status is now under the Economic Development Authority.
FEDA was an integral part of the Frederiskted Design Charrette in 2002, sponsored by the Virgin Islands Public Finance Authority. The Charrette was the first initiative to examine the revitalization of the community and the economy of St. Croix.
The initial focus was on the town of Frederiksted and its cruise ship industry. The goal of the Charrette was to create new public spaces and unique experiences within Frederiksted, thereby enhancing the local community and establishing a specific town identity. Of all design projects identified, and planned, the revitalization of the Waterfront Promenade, Anne Abramson Pier head, Eliza McBean Clock Tower and Vendors Park, Buddhoe Park, and the Vincent E Mason Pool and Park were completed in 2006.
The additional projects to include the Town Park with Sports/Activity Center, Marina Park, Community Recreational Park, and revitalization of the Fort Frederik Beach Park are to be forthcoming.
